As we enjoy the last few weeks of Summer and slowly head towards Autumn, you might be trying to squeeze in your last few beach trips and camping excursions. However, one way you can embrace the outdoors all year round is by making the most of your patio or deck. Outdoor spaces are so versatile they can be enjoyed all year round. There are a few adjustments you can make to ensure your patio transitions through the seasons well. Read our favourites below:
Automated Opening Louvres
This is one of the best ways to make your deck easily adaptable to each of the seasons because louvres give you so much versatility. Automated louvres can be used for protection from harsh sun overhead, to keep you dry when it rains or storms, to shelter you from winds or to direct sunlight a certain way. This means, essentially, a deck or patio with louvres can be adapted to the weather of spring, summer, autumn and winter making your patio a comfortable space all year round.
Heaters
There is a large range of heaters that can be incorporated into your outdoor space from strip heaters to gas heaters to fire pits and pretty much everything in between. You simply need to decide which you prefer or pick the one to best suit the style of your deck. Heaters are the perfect way to stay warm in the evenings as summer ends and autumn begins, meaning soon enough the nighttime temperatures will be considerably lower.
Retractable Blinds
Blinds on the sides and front of your patio are the perfect way to introduce privacy, sun protection, or a temporary barrier to your outdoor space, as you need it. They can be pulled down to help reflect the sun when it’s at its strongest, or if required, give you some added privacy for the area. Alternatively, they can be left up when you want the enjoy a nice cool breeze in the heat or let the sunshine in. It’s a win-win!
Mood Lighting
You would be surprised at how much more appealing your deck becomes with a bit of mood lighting in the winter months. The days get a bit shorter and darker in Autumn and Winter meaning people are less inclined to spend time outside. However, warm fairy lights or lanterns will transform your patio into a cosy and inviting outdoor space where you love to snuggle up with a book or glass of wine.
Accessorise
Something as simple as adding cushions to your seats during winter will make a huge difference to your outdoor space. Besides looking more appealing, you won’t have to sit on cold metal or wood. Drape throws around the area for guests to keep warm or perhaps even invest in an outdoor rug, again giving it a cosy vibe rather than one that’s cold and unappealing.
