Who has home renovations on their to-do list in 2022? We do! SEQ Patio Group helps hundreds of Aussie houses refresh their outdoor spaces each year! Once you’re set up with the patio of your dreams, the real fun of decorating and furnishing begins.

We’ve done the research on what Australian’s will be experimenting with inside and outside the home. Check out our roundup of the outdoor design trends of 2022 that we’re itching to see brought to life!

Well Rounded Features

Party like it’s the 70s! Curved architectural designs are officially back in style. Pinterest Predicts 2022 crunched the numbers and found that plenty of people will invest in curved home decor. And we’re expecting to see this look merge into outdoor living trends in 2022.

Homeowners who want a break from industrial and clean lines are bringing in rounded or curved features like couches, curved bars and curved kitchen designs. And this revival of round things is loved by everyone! Boomers, Gen X and Millennials don’t agree on much, but they all are super into this well-rounded home trend.

Becoming One With Nature

Biophilic design has been around for a few years, but just like your old college roommate, we cannot stop buying plants! Now many Australian homeowners need more dedicated spaces to put their foliage or simply want to build their homes beside real greenery. This style is more than a 2022 outdoor design trend – with more and more eco-conscious buyers on the market, people are looking to create homes that benefit the environment in the long run.

Millennials are leading this trend and turning to plant-first home designs this year to merge the line between construction and nature. The perfect place to trial this style is of course the patio since it’s already on the barrier between homes and nature.

Letting nature creep onto your patio can create an absolutely magnificent look. And, we mean doing more than scattering a few extra pot plants around. Australian biophilic patios may incorporate things like staircase gardens, floral ceilings and merging gardens.

Barkitecture

We’ve always known that our furry friends are part of the family and this new architectural pet trend takes it to the next level. Animal-first architecture lets your pets strut around the house like they own it!

This trend is all about dedicating space for your pets, or installing unique features that are for pets only! We’re talking doggy daybeds, specialised cat bridges and paths and other stuff that really spoils our pets.

Hellenistic revival

Talk about a blast from the past; modern homeowners are seeking inspo from 600 B.C.E. Ancient Greece styled features are a hit amongst Gen Z and other younger generations. But before you start decorating with olive wreaths, the Hellenistic revival isn’t 100% true to history.

When bringing this style to your home, you can go one of two ways! The first is a timeless and more historically inspired look that incorporates classic Hellenistic colour pallets and features. We’re talking Corinthian columns, marble or stone Greek statue art and Aphrodite-themed colours of blue, gold and white. The end result is an outdoor space that looks timeless and plucked from the gardens of Athens.

The second take on the Hellenistic decoration style is a retro fusion inspired by Vaporwave – a culmination of early Internet imagery combined with classical Greek artworks and dreamish colors of neon pink and blues. This is a harder look to master, but something truly unique and contemporary.

Small Multi-Purpose Spaces

Space is a finite commodity, especially in metro areas! But what we’re learning is that a small space doesn’t mean you can’t do a lot of big things in it! People who can’t find the room for a massive, sweeping patio are having just as much fun with more contained outdoor areas.

By utilising modern multi-function furniture and design trends, you only need a few square metres of shaded space to get great value. Homeowners are doing away with what they don’t need and creating comfortable home spaces that cater to you first and foremost. If your 10 person seating area is collecting dust, our best advice is to get rid of it!

Sustainability Is The New Fast Fashion

Quality has always been better than quantity, though fast-fashion design trends made many people forget that for a while. After realising how fickle fast furniture is, Australian homeowners are seeking better quality furnishings for their patio spaces.

If you don’t want to go all out and buy new furnishings, hit up your closest thrift shop! Do like Macklemore does and pop some tags (yes, we’re still making that joke in 2022).

Similarly, we’re also leaning towards ‘greener’ materials in 2022. In the Interior Designer Trends Survey from the online marketplace 1stDibs, 750 interior designers were asked about their tastes going into the new year. A whopping 97 per cent swore sustainable building materials would be treated like gold in 2022!

Luxury In Small Spaces!

A full luxury renovation is enough to make any homeowner gulp at the prospective price tag. But contemporary homeowners aren’t skipping out on luxury spaces – they’re just downsizing them. In 2022 people will add luxury flair into the nooks and crannies of their homes!

Pinterest revealed it’s us Aussies that are leading this trend! Searches for ‘luxury powder room’ and ‘luxury closet designs’ will be on the up and up for this upcoming year. People want a Gatsby styled experience, but in a digestible size so your renovations still stay within budgets.
